Walkable works without signing in, and there is no Walkable user database for your walks to sit in. The few moments something does leave your phone — drawing a map, planning a route, a backup you switch on yourself — are written down plainly, one by one.

Walkable is published on Google Play and free to install. It is an Android app in early access — there is no iPhone version, and we will not pretend otherwise until there is one.
Made by VorreiX, in small steps
Walkable is made by VorreiX. It is a small effort rather than a large company, and the way we keep ourselves honest about that is to publish the things people usually keep vague: how the app works, what it does with your data, and what it actually looks like.

No account, and no copy of your walks
There is no sign-up, no password and no Walkable user database. Your walks, photos, notes and places are stored in the app's own storage on your phone, and nothing about a walk is uploaded unless you switch on one of the optional features.
Each of those features, and exactly what it sends, is listed in what stays and what leaves.

The quiet way to the station. The long way round the park. Draw it on a map, say what makes it worth walking, and a Trail Scout will go and walk it to check what is really there.

Questions people ask
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no email address and no password. Walkable works the moment you open it, and your walking history stays on your phone. See what stays on your phone.
Does it cost anything?
No. Walkable is free to download, there are no ads, and there is nothing to buy inside it.
Is there an iPhone version?
Not yet. Walkable is on Android, in early access. We would rather say that plainly than take an email address for a waiting list we cannot put a date on.
Does it work without internet?
The routing does. Download the region for where you are walking and you can record a walk, plan a route and follow turn-by-turn guidance with no signal at all — the route is worked out on your phone. A region holds routing data, not map pictures, so the map drawn underneath still needs a connection unless those tiles are already cached; your position and your directions do not. Download the region before you leave — that part needs a connection. Read the offline guides.
Where do my walks live?
On your phone, in storage only Walkable can read. There is no copy on any server of ours. If you want a second copy you can turn on encrypted backup to your own Google Drive — it is locked on your phone first, with a recovery key only you hold, so Google stores a file it cannot open.
Is Community where my walks get posted?
No. Nothing from the app is uploaded to Community. It is a separate public place on this website that you type into deliberately, in a browser, if you want to — and it has no access to your walking history. Visit Community.
What is Trail Scout?
A separate companion app for the people who walk a route to check what is really there before it becomes a Walkable trail. It is the verification side of the project rather than something you need in order to go for a walk. Trail Scout portal.
