Terms of Use

1. Who these terms are with

Walkable is made and published by VorreiX. These terms cover the Walkable Android app, this website at gowalkable.app, and the Walkable Community. By installing the app or using the site you accept them. If you do not, please do not use the service — and if something in here is the reason, we would genuinely like to hear it at Automat4ed@gmail.com.

Installing the app also means accepting the End User Licence Agreement, which covers the software itself. How your data is handled is described in the Privacy Policy. Where this page and the privacy policy touch the same subject, the privacy policy is the accurate one.

2. What the service is

Walkable plans walking routes, guides you along them, records the walk you took, and keeps that record on your phone. It is available on Android, in early access. There is no iPhone version.

It is free. There is no subscription, no advertising, and no paid tier to unlock. Some parts of the app are optional and off until you turn them on — cloud backup, live sharing, sharing a route with a friend — and the app works fully without any of them.

Walkable is not a safety device, an emergency service, or medical advice. A suggested route is a suggestion. Map data can be out of date, a path can be closed, flooded, unlit or unsafe, and a phone can lose signal or run out of battery. Judging whether it is sensible to walk somewhere is yours to do, along with obeying traffic rules, local access rules and common sense. If you have a health condition that walking might affect, talk to a doctor rather than to an app.

3. No account, and what that means

There is no Walkable account, no sign-up, and no password. That is deliberate, and it has consequences worth stating plainly: we cannot look up your walks, we cannot restore them if you delete them, and we cannot recognise you across two phones. Your walking history exists where you can see it, and nowhere else, unless you switch on a backup yourself.

You are responsible for the device the app runs on and for any backup you choose to create. If you use the encrypted cloud backup and lose your recovery key, the backup cannot be opened by anyone, including us.

4. Acceptable use

While using Walkable or this website, please do not:

• use the service to break the law, to trespass, or to put yourself or anyone else in danger;
• attempt to disrupt, overload or probe the site, its APIs or the services it depends on, including automated scraping of the Community or the routing and map endpoints;
• impersonate another person, or post under a display name intended to look like someone else;
• upload anything unlawful, harassing, hateful, sexual, or that reveals another person’s private information;
• use the service to advertise, to sell, or to distribute spam or links to malware;
• resell, sublicense or redistribute the app or its offline map packages as your own product.

We may remove content or block access where we reasonably believe one of these has been broken. Because there is no account, blocking is a blunt instrument — it is not a punishment system, it is how a small space stays usable.

5. Community content

The Community is a website feature, separate from the private, account-free app. It is public: what you write there can be read by anyone, indexed by search engines, and quoted elsewhere. Nothing from your walking history is ever posted there — only what you type into the form.

Your words stay yours. By posting, you give VorreiX permission to publish, store, display and translate your post or reply on gowalkable.app and in related Walkable material, and to remove it. That permission exists so we can run the page; it is not a transfer of ownership, and it does not let us sell your writing on.

Everything is read before it appears. New posts and replies are held for moderation, so publication is never immediate and is never guaranteed. We may publish, hide or reject a contribution, and we may keep a report about it so that moderation works. The Community Guidelines describe what is welcome and how reporting and removal work.

To have something you posted removed, email Automat4ed@gmail.com with the subject Walkable Community Removal, telling us which post or reply you mean.

6. Intellectual property

The Walkable app, this website, the Walkable name and logo, and the text and illustrations on these pages belong to VorreiX or are used with permission. You may link to any page here, quote a reasonable extract with attribution, and take screenshots. You may not copy the site wholesale, or present Walkable material as your own.

Map data is a different matter and belongs to the people who surveyed it: map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License. Offline map packages are derived from that data and carry the same licence.

7. Services we rely on

Using Walkable means some requests reach services we do not run. The Privacy Policy names each one, what is sent, and when. In summary: the app is distributed through Google Play; maps are drawn from OpenStreetMap tile servers; weather comes from Open-Meteo at a coordinate rounded to about a kilometre; and cloud backup, if you set it up, writes an encrypted file into your own Google Drive. Route planning is deliberately not in that list: it runs on your phone and sends nothing. Those providers have their own terms, and we cannot control their availability.

8. This website, and what it stores in your browser

This site sets no advertising cookies and does not follow you to other sites. Two things measure it, and a few small values live in your browser:

• Vercel Web Analytics — how many people visited, which pages they read, roughly which country they connected from (never a precise location), and what kind of device and browser they used. It is cookieless and builds no profile of you.
• Vercel Speed Insights — how quickly pages load, so we can tell when the site has become slow.
• Browser storage — the colour theme you picked, the language you picked, a random id for the support chat, and, if you use the Community, a random browser id and the display name you chose. None of these identify you. Clearing your browser data removes them; there is a step-by-step version on Delete your data.

9. Availability, and changes to the service

We build Walkable as a small effort and run it as one. The service may be unavailable, interrupted, or changed: features can be added, altered or withdrawn, and a feature you rely on today may work differently tomorrow. We will not deliberately break the promise the app is built on — your walks stay on your phone — but we cannot promise uninterrupted availability of anything that needs the network.

10. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent the law where you live allows: the app and this website are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. In particular we do not warrant that routes, distances, step counts, elevation, map tiles, place names or arrival estimates are accurate or complete, that guidance will keep working where there is no signal, or that the service will be error-free.

Nothing here tries to exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else a law that applies to you says cannot be excluded. Where you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected by this page.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the applicable law allows, VorreiX is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of data, or loss arising from a decision you made on the basis of a route or a map — including a path that turned out to be closed, private, unsafe or simply not there. Walkable is free, and the value of what you paid is the honest measure of what the service is worth in money.

Because your walking data lives on your phone rather than on our servers, keeping a copy of anything you would hate to lose is your responsibility. The app can export your data, and there is an optional encrypted backup.

12. Ending this agreement

You can stop at any time: uninstall the app, and stop using the site. There is nothing to cancel and no account to close. We may withdraw access to the Community or to a website feature where these terms have been broken. If we ever stop offering Walkable, the copy already installed on your phone keeps the data it already has, and your export stays readable.

13. If something goes wrong

Write to us first. Nearly everything is a misunderstanding that one email fixes, and Automat4ed@gmail.com reaches a person.

These terms do not attempt to choose a governing law for you, or to send a dispute to a particular country’s courts. The mandatory consumer-protection law of the place you live applies to you, and this page does not try to take it away or replace it. If a formal dispute ever arises, the applicable law and the competent court are determined by those rules rather than by a clause written here.

14. Changes to these terms

If these terms change materially we will update the date at the top of this page and publish the new version at the same address. Continuing to use Walkable after a change means the updated terms apply.
