Short answer
Continuous GPS during a walk uses real power, and the screen uses more. The single biggest saving is putting the phone away and letting Walkable speak the directions instead of watching the map.

- Let guidance speakTurns are announced and felt, so the screen can stay off the whole walk.
- Prepare an offline mapDownloading map tiles over a weak connection is expensive; local data is not.
- Do not restrict the appCounter-intuitive, but a throttled app retries more and can use more power.
