What is Trail Scout?
Short answer
Trail Scout is a separate app from Walkable, for contributors. A scout walks a route, records it properly with checkpoints and photographs, and submits it. Another scout walks the same route independently to confirm it, and only then does a person decide whether it should be published.

Why it is a separate app
The two do different jobs for different people. Walkable is for going for a walk. Trail Scout is for the much smaller number of people willing to do the work of documenting a trail carefully enough that strangers can rely on it.
Putting that inside Walkable would have made Walkable more complicated for everybody in order to serve a few.
What a scout actually does
Walks the route while recording, marks the points that matter — a junction that is easy to miss, a gate, a hazard — and photographs them. Describes the difficulty and any warnings honestly.
The submission is a claim about a real place, which is why a second person has to walk it before anyone else sees it.
